Head Barista

About the Role

We are looking for experienced Head Baristas to lead our team in our Fitzroy venue. The right person will be passionate, technically skilled, and have a strong work ethic, with the ability to lead a barista team to deliver the ultimate customer experience. You’ll ensure the quality and service of coffee is consistently to Industry Beans’ high standards.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Developing, training, and managing a team of baristas
• Managing the coffee program including liaising with the Industry Beans roastery, implementing recipes, and maintaining service standards
• Leading daily operations during shifts including organizing breaks and approving timesheets
• Maintaining technical standards for espresso extraction and milk steaming to ensure consistent, high-quality coffee
• Overseeing machine and grinder maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration to protect equipment and coffee quality
• Conducting quality control through sensory evaluation and cup tasting to identify extraction faults
• Managing retail offerings and ensuring visual merchandising is maintained at a high standard
• Delivering an outstanding hospitality experience through both barista craftsmanship and customer engagement

You’ll Be Perfect for This Role If You Have

• A customer-focused approach to specialty coffee
• Minimum of four years’ experience as a head barista in specialty coffee
• Strong experience developing and managing a team to deliver high-quality, consistent coffee
• Expertise across multiple machines, brew methods, and extraction profiling
• Excellent latte art skills with the ability to train others
• Troubleshooting, problem-solving, and equipment maintenance skills
• Ability to maintain quality and speed during high-volume service periods
• Confident front-of-house presence, complaint resolution skills, and brand representation
• Experience with inventory management and supplier liaison
• Availability to work a variety of weekdays and one weekend
